City Accepting Applications for District 1 Temporary Appointment
The City of Greenacres is accepting applications for the temporary appointment to the District 1 Council Seat. Florida Governor Rick Scott issued Executive Order 2017-176 on June 28, 2017, suspending the current Council Member, and therefore created a vacancy in District 1.
Applications will be accepted in the City Clerk's office until Thursday, July 13th at 5:00 pm. The temporary appointment will run through the unexpired term until March 2019, or unless and until the Governor should rescind the Order of Suspension. The City Charter dictates that a vacancy must be filled within 30 days by appointment of the remaining Council Members.
The requirements to qualify are to be a continuous resident within District 1 for one year, and be a qualified elector (registered voter) in the City of Greenacres. Applications may be picked up from the City Clerk's office, listed below, or on the "Public Notices" page of this website. All applicants should appear at the Monday, July 17th City Council Meeting at 7:00 p.m. and be interviewed by the Mayor and City Council. An appointment will be made at that time, and the selected individual will be sworn in and resume the seat immediately.
Contact the City Clerk's office at 561-642-2006 for any questions or additional information.
