Public Works
Our Mission
To protect the health and safety of the public through the provision of well-maintained roads, drainage systems, City vehicles and equipment, functional public facilities, parks and public building grounds.
Department Functions
The Public Works Department has five divisions providing municipal services in the following areas:
Administration
- Department administration including budget preparation and management, personnel, coordination of emergency management response services before and after a natural disaster.
- Contract management for various activities including: solid waste, vegetation and recycling collection, aquatic weed control, fire alarm monitoring, landscaping and pest control.
Roads and Drainage
- Maintenance of public right-of-ways including 45.80 lane miles of public roadways, 72 medians, sidewalks, swales, and litter pickup.
- Maintenance of public drainage systems including 645 stormwater structures, retention areas, two city canals, and five lakes.
- Maintenance of traffic signage.
Vehicle Maintenance
- Maintenance of City fleet including repair and maintenance of 49 vehicles and 165 small engine equipment.
Building Services
- Maintenance and repair of 17 public buildings and facilities totaling 125,158 square feet.
- Minor reconstruction/renovation of Public facilities.
Parks and Grounds
- Maintenance of 13 Parks, 10 Public Building grounds including landscaping and irrigation.
- Improvement projects to Parks and facilities.
