Information Regarding the City's Transition to Automated Curbside Solid Waste Collection Service

Solid Waste Container Size Options - 95 gallon, 65 gallon and 35 gallon

During Fiscal Year 2019, the City of Greenacres solicited proposals to enter into a franchise agreement for solid waste collection services. Five (5) bids were received, reviewed and evaluated during the selection process. A vendor was selected to ensure that every residential customer receives a level of service that meets the needs of our residents at the lowest possible cost. City staff recommended awarding the exclusive franchise to Advanced Disposal Services who is the current solid waste hauler.

In September, residents who currently received curbside pickup service, will receive an informational flyer and a postcard survey to select a desired container size. Curbside pickup residents will be able to select a container size that best suits your solid waste pickup needs.  Container selects must be made by October 5, 2019.  Sample containers are available for viewing at City Hall.

95-gallon containers hold approximately ten 13-gallon trash bags
65-gallon containers hold approximately six 13-gallon trash bags
35-gallon containers hold approximately three 13-gallon trash bags

If residents do not respond to the survey, they will receive a 96-gallon container. Containers will be provided, free of charge, and delivered to each property by mid-November. You may exchange your container at no additional charge through February 1, 2020.  Following is some important information regarding the containers:

All garbage must be placed inside the container to be collected.
Garbage collection will be provided two (2) days per week.
Customers will receive a 96-gallon container unless a different selection is made.
Please do not use your new container until December 1, 2019
Detailed container and collection guidelines will be attached to your new container.
Collection days for all solid waste will not change.   For information about collection days, please visit www.greenacresfl.gov or call Public Works at (561) 642-2071.

The recycling program will remain the same. If you need recycling bins, please contact the Public Works Department at 561-642-2071. Your request will be submitted to Advanced Disposal Services, which will deliver the bins within 10 business days.

Debris other than palm fronds and tree branches, such as leaves, tree and hedge trimmings, pine needles, etc. should be containerized, preferably in a garbage can, paper lawn and refuse bags, or plastic bags. Tree branches and palm fronds should be neatly stacked in a pile. Tree trimmings placed at the curb must be cut into pieces that are no more than six (6) feet in length and weigh no more than fifty (50) pounds each to facilitate manual loading.   Items that exceed this size shall be tagged and photographed and the information will be forwarded to the Public Works Department. Your waste assessment and collection service is intended for routine landscape maintenance, not debris generated by land clearing and tree removal activities. Piles that contain mixed materials, or that are excessively large, cannot be efficiently collected manually or mechanically and impede the ability of the waste hauler to provide service to other residential customers on the route.  Residents may contract with anyone you would like to remove the material, or if you have hired a commercial landscaper, make sure they include removal in their quote. Do not mix garbage with yard waste (vegetation). Home Owners Association's that have a contract with a landscaper to provide landscape maintenance to common grounds are responsible for insuring the prompt collection and disposal of yard waste.

Bulk collection service will continue to be provided one day per week. Bulk items include appliances, furniture and any other large household items that do not fit in your container.

Solid waste must be placed in front of your home and within 6 feet of the edge of the traveled portion of the roadway. Do not place or stack waste over water or gas meters, under low hanging branches or utility wires or within 4 feet of mailboxes, fire hydrants or signs. Solid waste collection services are conducted from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday (except Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day). Please make sure to place your waste outside prior to 7:00 a.m., for prompt collection. If you have any further questions, please contact the Public Works Department at 561-642-2071.
