Safe Streets for All: Safety Action Plan

What is the Safety Action Plan?

The Safe Streets for All (SS4A) Safety Action Plan is Greenacres’ strategic roadmap in coordination with The Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council (TCRPC) to reduce and ultimately eliminate traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries on our roadways. This plan reflects our commitment to the national Vision Zero movement—an ambitious yet achievable goal to ensure no one dies or is seriously injured in traffic collisions.

By combining data-driven strategies, community input, and infrastructure improvements, we’re working to make Greenacres a safer, more connected, and more livable city for everyone.

What We’re Doing

Greenacres is developing a comprehensive Safe Streets Action Plan that includes:

Data Analysis & Safety Audits – Identifying high-risk areas and traffic trends

Public Feedback & Outreach – Engaging residents and stakeholders in planning

Infrastructure Enhancements – Improving crosswalks, sidewalks, bike lanes, lighting, and traffic-calming features

Policy Review & Coordination – Aligning with regional Vision Zero goals

Funding & Grants – Pursuing resources through the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) federal grant program

What is Vision Zero?

Vision Zero is a global initiative that redefines traffic safety by acknowledging that deaths and serious injuries on our roadways are preventable—not inevitable. Vision Zero principles guide the Safe Streets for All plan by focusing on:

  • Human life and health as the highest priority
  • Proactive, data-informed planning
  • Safe street design that reduces risk
  • Shared responsibility between policymakers, planners, and road users
  • Equity and inclusion in transportation improvements

Greenacres proudly aligns with the Vision Zero Action Plan and adopted a resolution in 2019, working collaboratively toward a future with zero traffic fatalities.

Key Goals of the Plan

Achieve Vision Zero: Eliminate traffic deaths and severe injuries in Greenacres.

Create safer access for all: Especially for vulnerable users like pedestrians, cyclists, children, and older adults.

Target high-risk areas using data and resident feedback.

Promote equitable transportation improvements across all neighborhoods.

Encourage safer behavior through education and enforcement.

What’s Included in the Plan?

Crash Data & Risk Analysis: Identifying dangerous corridors and intersections.

Public Engagement: Community surveys, workshops, and listening sessions to hear firsthand from residents.

Equity Review: Ensuring underserved areas are prioritized.

Infrastructure Recommendations: Safer crosswalks, sidewalks, bike lanes, speed calming, lighting, signage, and more.

Performance Metrics: Tracking progress toward our Vision Zero goals.

Why It Matters

Traffic crashes are preventable. Whether it’s a child walking to school, a senior crossing the street, or a cyclist heading to work, everyone deserves to feel safe on our roads. Safe Streets for All supports:

  • Fewer crashes and fatalities
  • Safer routes to schools, parks, and community spaces
  • Healthier, more active neighborhoods
  • Equitable access to transportation options
