Sister Cities

The City of Greenacres is proud to build meaningful international relationships that promote economic opportunity, cultural understanding, education, tourism, and civic collaboration.

Through Sister City partnerships, Greenacres connects residents, businesses, schools, community organizations, and local government leaders with communities around the world. These relationships create opportunities for people-to-people diplomacy, business engagement, cultural exchange, and shared learning.

Sister Cities International

Sister Cities International was founded by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1956 to promote peace through people-to-people diplomacy. Today, Sister Cities International serves as the national membership organization for sister city programs in more than 400 communities, with more than 1,800 partnerships in over 140 countries.

A sister city relationship is a long-term partnership between a community in the United States and a community in another country. These relationships are officially recognized when the highest elected or appointed officials from both communities sign an agreement establishing the partnership.

  • Tourism promotion
  • Educational partnerships and student learning opportunities
