Hurricane Preparedness

Hurricane Season is June 1st through November 30th, however severe weather can happen anytime, anywhere. By taking steps to prepare, we can protect our families, homes, businesses and communities from the potentially devastating effects of a storm.

Flood Insurance

Flood losses are not covered under homeowners' insurance policies. FEMA manages the National Flood Insurance Program, which makes Federally-backed flood insurance available in communities that agree to adopt and enforce floodplain management ordinances to reduce future flood damage. There is a 30-day waiting period before flood insurance goes into effect, so don't delay. Flood insurance is available whether the building is in or out of the identified flood-prone area. Your Insurance may ask for a copy of the property's Elevation Certificate. The Building Department keeps all elevation certificates on file, both hard copies and digital copy. We can answer questions you may have about them, as well as provide you with a copy of the elevation certificate!

New FEMA Elevation Certificate

FEMA has published the new 2019 Edition of the Elevation Certificate (expiration date Nov 30, 2022) Per FEMA requirements, all ECs signed and sealed on February 21, 2020 or later must be completed using this new form, even if draft versions were previously submitted using the old expired form.

The City of Greenacres Building Department will only accept the new FEMA required certificate.
